Edith’s mother gives knowledge of nutrition science, and an interest in it, to her daughter.
In the hills and hollers of West Virginia, food and medicinal herbs were known by touch and season. Local plants were gathered, gardens were tended, and remedies were drawn from what grew underfoot. Over time those familiar sources drifted toward goods that arrived from far away. Lewisburg needed a knowledgeable and friendly place that began with the local—the herbs and foods still rooted in these hills—while treating supplements from elsewhere as complementary tools, chosen carefully to fill the nutritional gaps.
